Today we visited Cold Spring Orchard and GoBerry. Cold Spring Orchard is an apple farm in Belchertown, MA. The farm also serves as a research farm for UMass Amherst. They have a lot of colleges that go to the orchard and learn all the cool things we learned. We learned how to grow and treat the apples and fruits so they can have the best product as a result. We also learned a lot about the history of the farm and how they make different product like apple cider. They taught us about the insects and the ways they kill the bugs but don’t harm or kill the trees and fruit. They spray chemicals that harm the bugs but don’t harm or change the tree or fruit. They also don’t spray every single tree. They only spray the trees that have bugs that may hurt the trees. To identify which bugs are on which trees they put traps or fake apple that are sprayed with sugar to see what bugs will go to the traps. That’s how they find out what they should spray on trees to kill the certain insects. The orchard has about 50 acres of about 120 different varieties of apples. The smaller apples go to schools and the larger ones go to organic grocery stores like Trader Joe’s. After having some delicious apples we headed over to GoBerry Frozen Yogurt.

GoBerry FroYo is a locally owned froyo shop in North Hampton. Mr and Mrs Feinstein one day decided they wanted to open a froyo shop. GoBerry started about 5 years ago in May 2010. They are locally sourced and get mostly every ingredient from farms and local stores. Their milk comes from jersey cows which have thick rich milk. The yogurt comes from Sidehill farm who keeps their farm small. They keep a small amount of cows and if they can’t remember all the cows names then they have too many cows. Molly Feinstein, owner of GoBerry, said “good food comes from good ingredients.” Molly and her husband like to know where their ingredients come from so they don’t mind paying the full price of the milk and yogurt. The only time they need to get ingredients from a store is when they need fruit that is out of season. GoBerry is a customer engages service, which the Feinstein’s love. They love the local factor and connecting with people. So if you’re ever in the North Hampton area make sure you stop at GoBerry!
