Today we went into a Museum in Gloucester. The museum was named Cape Ann Museum and it was mostly about the history of fishing and their influence in Gloucester. In the museum there have been a lot of paintings and models of old fishing ships. We learned about the industrial fishing industry and how it evolved over the years. Where the workers come from and und what the process looked of industrial fishing looks like.
The fishing industry grow a lot over time. Most of the workers were Italian or spanish. Those people often were illegal immigrants. They don’t had a lot of work chances and there was a big request for fisher man.
Most of the tourists came for the fish restaurants or the sea. That’s why the fishing industry played a big role in tourism. In Gloucester are a lot of little shops which sell souvenirs or fishing articles. That means that the financial situation mostly depends on the fishing industry.
